As a professional colorist myself, working on well over a hundred hours of content a year, I'm just floored by the breadth and depth of this book. I have the first edition of Alexis' book and didn't hesitate to get the second edition. If you're looking to get familiar with world of color grading, this book is a must have.
The Color Correction Handbook 2nd Edition provides several things:
1. Provides the essential background theory you'll need to be knowledgable about color – physiological, psychological and technical information that's essential.
2. Gives you practical techniques across multiple platforms so you don't feel tied to just one application, but more so, nearly all of the techniques presented are portable to any application that you may work in where you need to adjust color and contrast.
3. It's so well organized! You'll read this book from beginning to end and then keep it on your desk as a reference manual. Need a tip about applying a window for localized contrast? Yep, those tips are easy to find and have real world practical applications.
4.Get your hands dirty with high quality footage available with the purchase of the book.
5. The Sidebars are awesome for those looking for sage advice from professional colorists or those looking to dive into technical aspects a bit further. In my opinion, the sidebars in each chapter are worth the price alone.
I've ordered but haven't received the companion to this book - The "Look Book" but I'm looking forward to that as well!
In summary, if you're interested in grading do yourself a favor and order this book! You'll discover something new each and every time you pick it up.

Whether new to color correction, or a pro - this book has so many nuggets of essential information that even with a strong working knowledge, it will be a fantastic asset when you need to reference something. It looks at different applications from FCPX to Davinci Resolve as well as a plethora of capture situations from DSLR and film cameras, as well as new cameras such as the Black Magic Cinema cameras.
It has links to work files and is seriously well crafted. Thank you Alexis. I'm a University film and video instructor and indie filmmaker, and I definitely endorse it.
